Lauren Godby had just graduated from high school and was getting ready to attend Texas Christian University when she decided to make a game day bracelet for herself. At the time, she was using the app ‘VSCO’ where she would share and edit her photos. This particular photo of the bracelet was gaining a lot of attention when her friends and followers began asking her to make them bracelets, too. From there, she decided to start a jewelry brand and name it "Lojewels”. A friend of Lauren, who happened to be a blogger, posted about her bracelets and it took off from there. Lauren says, “I knew that this was the start of something special, so I took advantage of the opportunity to grow my successful business over the course of the past 6 years”.
How has social media helped your business?
“Initially, Lojewels was not planned”, Lauren says. Lojewels completely grew from the power of social media and Instagram was the main platform they utilized to grow their brand. Over the past 6 years, their brand has grown from 0-14k followers. Lauren has always been a social media guru and with that, she was able to seek out her target audience. The Instagram algorithm is always changing and creating competition across the platform, so Lauren is always looking for ways to keep up with the challenging algorithm and ‘stick out’. Lojewels strives to have a distinctly unique identity that competitors cannot match. Lauren says she is one of the lucky ones with the chance to turn her dreams into a reality while inspiring others across the nation in unimaginable ways.
Tips that help Lojewels grow on social media
Maintaining consistency, value and trust. Customer service is everything! Posting everyday to keep active engagement is key to a successful online business.
Maintaining an Instagram aesthetic that is eye-catching to viewers, which Lojewels has done by creating their own presets. (Available to purchase on their website).
Utilizing all Instagram features such as countdowns, question stickers, quizzes, and more, which help spark more engagement on their page. There are also many new features that are currently successful with the new algorithm including reels, IGTV, fun filters, and stories!
Posting monthly giveaways - this is a great way to reach more clients, gain more followers, and increase engagement and interaction. (Word of mouth helps, too.)
Utilizing brand ambassadors - Lojewels chooses a few girls with a wide following (micro-influencers) to represent their brand. They send these influencers free products to post on their feed, which typically sparks new followers and sales.
Although we talked about many tips and tricks that worked and are currently working for their social media, the algorithm is constantly changing so online brands must stay on top of the game, or they will go unnoticed.
