Kristen Ley is the mastermind behind the super fun and creative gift and retail brand, Thimblepress. The brand prides itself on being original and delivering smiles to people every single day, both on and off social media.

Kristen began attending conferences all over the US to spread the word about her joyful brand before social media shopping was really big. She said, “We were on social media but that was before it was the ‘trend.’” Thimblepress had a presence on social media early on, allowing them to hit their success at the right time. Kristen was sharing pictures of her products on social media because she enjoyed it, and she thought ‘why not?’ Little did she know, her brand would explode!


How has social media helped your business?

Although Thimblepress did not start on social media, social media aided in the brand’s growth. Kristen put her brand on Instagram, her biggest social platform, early in comparison to her competitors. Jumping on the app early was very valuable to their growth on the platform. Kristen recognizes the value of customer service and addresses her followers directly. She prides her brand on being original, but connecting with her customers is everything. When her brand was starting off and she was attending conventions all around the United States, social media was the new way for customers across the country to stay connected with Thimblepress on a daily basis. Kristen used this to build upon her brand.

Thimblepress has made its mark on Instagram with a massive following of 229k followers. However, Kristen recognizes social media can get overwhelming, and she says it’s important not to lose the morals and voice of your brand. Kristen says, “I began to focus on what the competition was doing rather than what I truly wanted for my own brand”. Over the past year, Kristen has taken her social media into her own hands to highlight the importance of the message she is putting out and be more intimate with her followers.

Tips that help Thimblepress grow on Social Media

  1. Being original and promoting kindness and positivity through their products, which translates through the brand’s posts.

  2. Word of mouth- Kristen advertised her social media at conferences so consumers could keep up with her and it spread from there. Customer service is essential to Thimblepress!

  3. Instagram reels- Kristen runs and manages the Thimblepress Instagram herself so she tries to stay up to date on the trends!

  4. Kristen focuses the most on engaging in relationships with her followers and creating a relationship so that they can understand her brand!

    Kristen said, “ I love social media because we can produce really great content. I pride Thimblepress on the fact that what we post is original content from in-house at our studio”. Toward the end of my lovely interview with Kristen, I asked her some tips and tricks that she was using at the moment - I loved her response! She told me with the rapidly changing algorithm, she was still finding what works best for her, but “building a relationship with your customer so that they can understand your brand and feel a part of a bigger mission to bring them joy”. She went on the say, “It is most important to be what you want your company to represent and spread kindness to your customers because that is the tip that will always stand the test of time!”.
